Back from the vet

Sweet Tart North on Health - Mon, April 28 2008

Monica here. Sweetie is too sick to type or even dictate. By the time we got to the vet, she had basically pure blood coming out of her rectum. While we were at the vet, she had some grass expelled too but it's mostly bloody liquid. They are sending out a Giardia and another test that I don't remember. The fecal float showed a ton of bacteria that is probably the culprit. I even had them do a Parvo test on her since I'm unsure of her vaccines(even though I got something from the puppy miller saying she had them)and due to the fact that she was at Petco 2 weeks ago and that certainly fits with the incubation period. Luckily it was negative because I would have been hysterical at that point. It's bad enough to watch your little dog struggling like that. Her temp was pretty low along with her diarrhea. She got some subQ fluids there and they sent a bag home with me. Yippee, I really look forward to doing that later on. She did actually try to bite me when they were getting her stool sample for the Parvo so I know she feels really bad. We got some Fortiflora and Flagyl for her. I had already been giving her Immodium and pumpkin so we're going to continue that along with some canned ED(I think it is). Hopefully she'll start perking up soon because if she doesn't they want me to take her to Circle City Vets for hospitalization. The poor little baby is so miserable and it just really got bad so quickly. Like I told Dr T, she was acting fine yesterday except for the diarrhea. If I had thought she was going to be so sick, I would definitely have done the E-vet yesterday. I know that is wasn't possible to predict but I was born with the guilty gene(thanks to my Catholic Italian mother!) I am staying home with her today and I have postponed my doctor visit because I don't want to leave her alone(my respiratory whatever got worse over the weekend). Jerry will be working from home twice a week now so he can stay with her tomorrow. I just feel so bad for the poor little sick baby. So if you can keep her in your prayers, we would all appreciate it. She is not even up to 10 pounds so I worry about how long her little body can handle the diarrhea. Thanks for listening!

We will all certainly be praying for her to get better and quickly. You get better, too. I don't have the guilty gene and try not to second guess if I can help it.

We will keep you and Sweet Tart in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. I also have Catholic Italian guilty gene from my mom also. So I understand.

We're definitely sending good puppy vibes your way. I don't necessarily have the guilty Catholic gene going on, but I do have the Chinese guilty gene. From what I've learned, it's pretty similar to others! And my husband grew up with the Polish Catholic guilty gene. Believe me, if it were me, I'd be second guessing until I, too, had diarrhea. It happens. We're not mind-readers or fortune tellers.

Positive puppy, kitty, and human thoughts coming your way. Poor Sweet Tart. I probably would have waited, too.

I have that same guilty gene. It's horrible. I'll be praying for Sweet Tart and for you. It sounds like you're pretty sick too. Both of you girls need some rest and TLC. Chase may need to trade his security uniform for a nurse's outfit!!
