Hey everybody.

Mason on My Blog - Sun, April 20 2008

My name is Mason and I've been here at my new home since April 4th. So my new birth date is April 4th because mom only knows the year I was born. When Mom took me in I had a staph infection, yeast infection in my ears, fungal infection in my toes and my allergies were driving me nuts! My toenails were also so long they curled to the sides. Mom was horrified when she saw how I was living. Thankfully after a trip to the doctor Mom found out that I was healthy otherwise and heartworm negative. I got to go to daycare for the first time and it was fun. I'm eating Eagle Pack Holistic Select with different raw food added in. It's delicious and they are always telling me to slow down. I'm also on an allergy med called Atopica plus salmon oil, vitamin e, ccm+, cran tri c and immune boosters. I have to have eye drops and my ears cleaned and medicine in them twice a day and once a day powder stuff in between my toes. But it makes me feel better and I get tasty treats in return. Unfortunately my allergies were never taken care of properly so it's a chronic problem. But since I've been here they have gotten a lot better. I hardly itch and I'm not snotty anymore. I get to go hiking too and they gave me a good scrubbing with a fatty acid shampoo and Mom and Dad swear I'm a brighter red. We went swimming today and it was great. I love all the walks we take and being with someone most of the time. I have separation anxiety a little but can you blame me! I don't want to be left behind anymore. Mom says I'll probably get to meet more dogs this summer and I can't wait! Mom thought I should introduce myself.

Welcome Mason! Glad you found IndyPaws! Sure sounds like you had a tough life before your Mom found you. I have allergies too and my Dr is going to try Atopica. Both me and my sister Ojo eat Eagle Pack -- we like it. PS: Mama Muttblood coined the term "Gotcha Day" for the day you were adopted to celebrate for your birthday when your birthday isn't known... so belated Gotcha day!

Thanks! Mom says I get to have a 10th birthday party next year. I've never had a party but I got to go with one with my new fam last weekend. It was fun. We got to socialize and eat boxer brownies and lots of treats.

Oh and Atopica is amazing! It has done amazing things for me and I only take it Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. I'm going to possibly start taking it on Saturdays too when Mom can afford it. You can get it way cheaper online. I shop around but canadavet.com has it fairly cheap. The going rate is usually 10.18 for a 100 mg pill. My vet will sell it to me for 7 bucks but I can usually find it online for 5 something. The only downside is the price but Mom says it's worth every penny.

Talk about a lucky boy...that is you, Mason. I think you have won the lottery with your new family. They are taking really good care of you. We don't want to have separation anxiety but it just happens. Mom says that mine isn't as bad as it was when I first came to live with her. Welcome to IP and enjoy your new life.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome. Everything has been great so far and Mom and Dad say it only gets better. Mom and me are going to take an obedience class soon to brush up on my skills. She says I'm a good boy already but she wants me to learn that we are in this together so to have fun I have to behave. I met the neighbor today and she thought I was cute and gave me kisses.
