My version of fetch

Hoover on Behavior - Sun, April 20 2008

I don't understand why people have to train their dogs to fetch. I do a great job of it and I've never been thaught. Here's how I do it:

Mom or anyone, has the tennis ball, it gets tossed, we go after it. I then grab it in my mouth, take about three steps, drop it then procede to turn around and snarl at Kirby and Lola when they come near it! Voila! Fetch! The human then comes to get it from my guarding space and then tosses it again! FETCH!! I'm the best at it.

If I get the ball, it is mine. I do not share. That means Kirby and Lola can not have it. I have to snarf them away. The hardest part was training my humans to come and get it. They caught on finally and I reward them with a kiss.

Should I NOT be the one who gets the ball, I respect that... Whoever gets it can bring it back to mom (or whoever) and the cycle starts all over again.

Mom says I don't play fair and that snarfing is not allowed, blah...blah..blah.. it makes Kirby and Lola not want to play, blah...blah....blah... Talk to the paw mom! This is how my game of fetch rolls.

That wouldn't produce a lot of playing ball in my house. I have to bring it back if I want to play. Sometimes I have to toss it in their lap... other times I have to hand it to them directly. The things we must do to play ball.

That's how you play fetch? I've been doing it all wrong, dude! I've been letting them throw the ball/toy and then I run over and grab it with my mouth and shake it like a Polaroid picture. And then I play keep-away when they come up to me. No snarfing involved (usually).

yeah when I play fetch I have to bring it back to them...well sometimes I can get away with it with mommy because she picks up the toy from me sometimes if I don't bring it back. I like to think that I have trained her well. hehe :P

We are just so alike, it's scary. I do exactly the same thing. Totally cool..
