Letter to the Editor

Pit*Bull*Princess on Activities - Sun, April 20 2008

Hey everyone! Today I decided to write a letter to the editor of the Indy Star. Indy Pit Crew had sent me the newsletter, and I guess there's going to be a rally next Saturday....anyway....It's for homeless animals and I figured "Hey, why not write a civil rant that a bunch of people will see?" Here is what I wrote (sorry about any mistakes, they'll fix it for me LOL).

"In 2007, Indianapolis killed 14,470 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens." Who knew there were so many homless animals here? Many of us shrug the facts of animal overpopulation in Indianapolis off, while some of us get out there and do something about it. It's really easy to do something, but still some of us refuse to help.

The least you can do is get your animals neutered or spayed. FACE Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic offers the procedures to be done for about $20.00. Spaying and neutering also reduces the risk for many diseases, and reduces aggression in your pet's behavior.

If you still find that to hard, don't let your pet run around the neighborhood. Your pet could get sick, get hit by a car, or breed with another animal and just add to the homeless animal population. Get a sturdy fence or keep them inside, just don't let them loose.

If you don't have a pet, but are looking for one, GO TO A SHELTER! There are animals of every color, size, breed, and species waiting for their forever home. Who knows, you could be saving an animal that would have been euthanized that same day.

14,470 animals died last year due to human ignorance. That's 14,470 too many. The Indy Pit Crew is having a Homeless Animals Rally downtown at the Monument on April 26 @ 10AM. Anyone can come, it's free. So please do something about this, even the tiniest thing makes a big difference.
