THANKS Marci. I was just getting ready to find the online link and post it!
The part about IACC and the pits and pit mixes is what really got me. I had no idea that A. There were so many being brought in and B. they didn't have a way to adopt them out again! That's how I got Amy. She was at IACC and they got her into a foster program. Like it would take a rocket scientist to temperment test Amy. But, I can see their point that they would want to do background checks on adopters, but I also think the same could be said about a number of breeds.
I was just truly sad to think about all the pits and pit mixes being killed just because there wasn't enough manpower.
Thank you for posting this! I finally got to read it! There has been a lot of talk of numbers in this whole issue, particularly when I was at the board meeting. One thing I haven't heard factored in was the opening of the FACE spay/neuter clinic in 1999. They've contributed significantly to the improvement of the numbers. I personally think they're hitting the real issue and are probably more responsible for the drop in numbers killed than ACC or HSI. I fear this pact will be called successful and will be given credit for favorable numbers in the future when the numbers were going in that direction to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I want the numbers to keep going in the right direction. I just want to see credit given in all places where it is due.
