Door2Door sales or casin' da joint?

NosyRosie on Activities - Thu, April 17 2008

We had a guy ring our door bell this evening trying to sell us a home security system. He pointed to the security sign we already have from our current security system company and said his product was more superior and updated than what we have. He proceeded to ask my husband how many entrances we had and what type of doors we had. He also asked to come inside to see our back door. Of course we didn't let him in.

In the meanwhile...Maggie is barking her head off in the guest bedroom and Freckles is whining.

Then around 11:30p we decided to take the girls on a quick walk around the block. We saw two pick-up trucks with the logos of security company that the guy was from. One was leaving the neighborhood, and another truck was parked on the street in front of a house that is frequently bought/sold/sits empty. I came home and checked the website I saw on the side of the truck. It's got a front page but none of the links work. There's also a logo of the Better Business Bureau on it, but when I checked the BBB site, this company doesn't show up.

It's really freaking me out. Hubby alerted the neighborhood association discussion site.

PS: We live around E.121st and Cumberland Rd in Fishers.

Wow...this is scary. Maggie may have known that this guy wasn't a good guy. Mom never does business with a person that comes to her front door....except for Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts.

It's little things like that I make me wish I still lived with a dog. My cats love us, but they will sure not stand up to anyone like Maggie did.

That is pretty suspicious. You need Officer Chase over there to do some security work for you! It sounds like Maggie may be a good deputy!

Definatly! That appears shady business practices and most businesses would want their site to have working links. Sec'y of State and BBB might be good contacts

Glad we live in the middle of nowhere...we don't get any salesmen coming around. Mom was kinda freaked when the dishwasher installer-man came and she was by herself. But I think between me, Bogie and my 120# dane mix brother, Hunter, she was pretty safe. Nobody was going to mess with our Momma. Raven can be pretty fierce too when she or mom is threatened.... Glad Maggie was on barking duty!

Hey,
I sent you a PM.

Gosh...you never know anymore. Maggie and Freckles certainly did their job. I read where home robbers will go where there's least resistance....like no dogs, no alarm system, etc., like the house down the street from you. In my little mind, you just can't be too cautious, but that's me.

Tell your mom to be careful, those scouts can get downright nasty! Haha. I think your suspicions are totally valid. I would be keeping an eye out. Have you alerted the police or anything?

Mom says she definitely would call the police and report this. And way to go, Large Marge in Charge! Glad that you were taking things seriously. Your bark is ferocious, isn't it?

I think this is the only time I've been proud of Maggie for barking incessantly when someone was at the front door. Thanks for the responses, guys. I checked the housing association discussion board and I think it's happened to a few other people in the neighborhood, too. Someone was going to email the company to remind them of the No Solicition sign at the entrance of our subdivision. Hubby said he'd drive by the base camp house on his way back home for lunch before he called the police.

Hmmm...we just heard that 3 houses were broken into near Oakland Hills on NE side, too...same guys?

Way to go, BFF! Scare those bad people off. That is creepy, though. I think I'd alert the police, epecially since you saw the trucks in your neighborhood so late at night.

I am my own security system at my house. Let that guy TRY to come into MY house. hee hee

You never know these days. There have been so many burglaries mentioned on the news lately, I would be leery too!

I would definitely be freaked out as well. We don't have a security system, because the three boys seem sufficient enough. Most sales people leave as soon as they hear Miles and Gunner go off. I hope you can get to the bottom of this, though. It's very suspicious.
