We are moving...

Kelly on Health - Wed, April 16 2008

I just accepted a new job that will have me relocating from Bloomington to Chicago. I know a few people have been moving lately...any suggestions as to how to keep Holiday as stress-free as possible?! I'm very worried how she will adapt to living in a TOTALLY different kind of city.

Also, has anyone ever lived in the Chicago suburbs before? If so, any suggestions on vets or cool dog parks?

Thanks everyone!!

When we moved from Terre Haute to Indy, we brought along my husbands mom for the specific purpose of playing/watching Eddie. Having us go back and forth unloading made him anxious, so it was very helpful to have her there to walk him, and just hold him. As far as a new city, we found that Eddie had VERY bad separation anxiety for awhile. But, he eventually got to where he wasn't as bad. GOODLUCK!

Which suburb? I have a lot of friends in Chicago, but need to know which area to ask about.

I just moved into a new house. I had my parents keep the dogs the day of the move. It was much less stressful on all of us. I know that may not be an option for you, since you're relocating out of state. You might want to ask your vet for advice too or ask Dr. Phil the vet on here.

I recently visited a friend in Oak Park--totally the coolest suburb ever!! I loved it and if I ever had to go up there for any reason, I'd try to get a place up there. They are so many little doggie boutiques and everything is just a short walk away--it's like broadripple X5 with the amount of cute shops, dining, etc....even a movie theater! I was really impressed, the houses are great and have yards, and there are plenty of condos and apartments that are super dog friendly....a short trainride to the big city--we saw a ton of dogs around the parks!

If you haven't checked out prices of places to live in Chicago yet, be prepared for a bit of a sticker shock. It's a lot more expensive than Indiana, especially apartments...

I have definitely experienced that sticker shock! haha I suppose living in Bloomington with the outrageous rents has made it less shocking - but finding a perfect apartment like I have here is proving to be very difficult and I only have 1 month to figure it all out! If I had more time I would just buy something as the mortgage payments would be cheaper than some of the places I'm looking to rent!

Check Darien...just south of OB on Rt.83 and nice, residential, not-as-expensive. Check Sussex Creek Apts; very, very nice; new pool, underground parking, etc.
Also look into Lombard, but I don't think its as nice...
Who will you be working for?
