Sucked into Petfinder

Nancy on My Blog - Sun, April 13 2008

So, I was bored and sitting at the computer, and thought, "I'll just take a look at Petfinder." Big mistake. An hour and a half later, I finally forced myself to click off of it. It makes me happy to see how many rescues are out there trying to do the best for animals, but it makes me sad to see how many dogs and cats need homes! It's truly depressing and overwhelming at times.

It also renewed my frustration with HSI. I was wavering about Mutt Strut, but I just don't think I can support it. I look at the Miller Beach Humane Society in Gary, IN and iI know that the director Betty Clayton operates that shelter on a shoestring of a budget and is still able to save a lot of lives. I just don't understand what HSI is doing with their money!!!

I have stoped going there. I aiways feel bad for the furbabies, and that is why we have 5 now.

I was pretty depressed about it last week and posted about the same thing. It's overwhelming, isn't it?

Did you see the big article in today's paper about HSI? No Mutt Strutt for us this year!

I'm rather addicted to Petfinder. Mainly because that's where I found my girls. Maybe, if things go well, I will be able to adopt another little girl this summer.

Little girl? Ummmm, I know of a really cute little beagle girl that's currently up for adoption... :) (http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10275441) :)

I'm on it almost daily. Because you never know when a Doxie will need us:-)I also know some people that are looking for dogs so I try to keep an eye out for them as well. Still makes me sad though to think about all of them needing homes while people are buying puppies at pet shops.

yes, we have a full house here and STiLL check it out regularly...I look at the Petfinder Classifieds, too...but it often makes me angry, like looking at Craigs List...people who are getting rid of their pets.i

I thought it was pretty infuriating. It's just not right what they're doing in my opinion.

Yes, I too, am addicted to Petfinder. That is where I found my little Skippy. If we had the room I would have a lot more then two, but in an apt., there's not much choice.

Wow, I just love petfinders!!! Thats where Mom found me and now I have a wonderful forever home and a big sister too!!!! My name was Hoppy back then, but Mom wasn't too fond of that so when she adopted me, I became forever known as Skippy!!! I hope there are a lot of animals getting adopted.

My mom found me on Petfinder too, but she wouldn't have known I was there if Captain Jack's mom, Christina, hadn't have told her there was a dog on there that looked "just like Maddie." That part wasn't quite true, but it was true enough that she came all the way down to Jennings County to find me! For about a year after that she looked on PetFinder a lot trying to find any more of our siblings that might need rescuing. Now she just looks for people who have asked her help to find the perfect companion. She's had pretty good luck!

I used to do the same thing and discovered I can't anymore. It got depressing because I know that I can't afford, or have the room, for another animal. I am not sure if boycotting the Mutt Strut is the right way to go. The money is still going to help animals. I don't get the impression that the Humane Society is just trying to find boutique animals. No matter what they do, they will never satisfy everyone. Unfortunately, they cannot save and support every animal. But they are still trying to do something, so why not look past the politics and get out there and support the Mutt Strutt ... even if the event only helped 10 animals it is worth it.
