Doggie Door for Sliding Door

Susan on Shopping - Sat, April 05 2008

Hi All,
Any of you have experience with doggie doors for sliding glass doors? Esp. for big dogs (76 lbs)? Looks like I'm taking my house of the market and staying put for awhile, so I'd like to get Ellie and Jed a door. Any suggestions?

Yeah, my sister has one for her rottie on her sliding glass doors. I'll post the brand that she used as soon as she calls me back.

I recieved an email from my sister about her experience with doggie doors in sliding glass doors. Here is what she had to say: "our dog door was made my Pet Safe. it's okay...but not without cons...like the magnet that holds the door in place is not very strong so sometimes doesnt keep the door closed. we remedied that by gluing on additional magnets. also b/c the sliding door must stay slightly open in order to put the dog door in, there's not a tight seal around the dog door or on the other end of the sliding glass door, so not energy efficient. in the winter we have to pull out the dog door b/c too much cold air comes into the house." I hope this info will be useful to you.

Thanks, Woo! I looked them up online and they are $200-$400. Yikes! Maybe I'll just go with a regular one. :)
