Our Mom does too. Mom was SOBBING. We hate it when she does that. We got all up in her face and gave her LOTS of kisses. Mom thought they did a pretty good job with the topics, but she wished that they had shown a few more puppy mills that are 10X worse than what they had shown. Like the one in Odon, IN. Where the shih tzu had its leg ate off by a pit bull in the next cage (not trying to say anything bad about pits.. strictly puppy mills... we have fostered pits and have a foster one right now). Plus I have seen puppy mills where the dogs are in nothing but mud, and they are walking all over the dead animals. One other thing is that I wish they had touched more on what we can do to get the laws changed. Education is GREAT, but we need to get these laws changed !! Maybe we can email her and have them do another segment. Mom has to go lay down now because her head is throbbing. PS - if anyone taped it, she would love to get a copy (if she can do that ???). Maybe she can get it through Oprah.com ???).
There are some laws, but not enough. And you also have to find both the problem and the person responsible. The laws are slowly increasing along with prosecution, but we still have a ways to go. And even if you do get a conviction often the punishments aren't that strict on their own, you may have to also convict someone of another charge as well.
that one dog looked like my girls with an eye patch -- a large Ojo. Logically, I can wrap my brain around what happens but watching it... it's like a human laying in a coffin knowing what takes place. Some images are just burned forever in your brain.... here's another
I didn't watch the euthenasia part, luckily I had to go pick my car up. Several years ago I watched an online video of a lovely golden retriever/mix puppy being put to sleep. That is definitely an image burned in my mind. Not to mention I work with a gal who used to work for a shelter and euthanized animals as part of her job. She says you have to love them enough to euthanize them and I absolutely do not agree. These are healthy animals that just haven't found a loving home yet. We have to love them enough to stop the overpopulation through preventative methods, not through killing. She also tells a story of one dog that survived the euthanasia somehow and popped its head up in the truck. Those around us thought for sure that dog would be spared, but no, they took it back in and killed it.
