Volunteer opportunities?

Tabitha on My Blog - Wed, April 02 2008

So I have finally decided to get off of my lazy butt and do some volunteer work. Naturally, I wanted to do work with animals. But to be quite honest, I have no idea where to start! I am thinking Animal Control or any other kill-shelter are always in high demand for help. But I figured I would ask everyone on here first! Anybody out there a volunteer? If so, could you give me some info?

Mom just started volunteering at the Hamilton County Humane Society this past Jan/Feb. She has only been in a few times so far, but really enjoys it. What side of town do you live on? That may help determine where you volunteer due to proximity.

This is wonderful. Mommy works so much that she does not do this. She wishes she could but, she does not want to leave me all day and then go out at night. I do think a good place to start is at a shelter. From there, you can move up to making a big stand for animal rights. Bless you!!!

Mom was a volunteer years ago but she worked with kids. She was a Girl Scout Leader.
She said that those 4 years were the best years. Having a sleep over with 12 little girls was wild. She would love to work with animals but it just isn't in her schedule now.

Hi Tabitha. We would love to have you volunteer with us!! We are a small volunteer rescue and rehab group. We always need people to come hold leashes and talk to prospective adopters at our events. We are at the Petco in Fishers every other Saturday. We also desparately need foster homes for both dogs and cats. We have a couple of people from this site that volunteer and/or foster for us. Thanks for deciding to volunteer to help animals.

I volunteer for ARPO, the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership. You can check out their website at www.adoptarpo.org or just drop in at the Castleton PetSmart every Saturday from 12-4 where we hold our adoption event.
