There have been a few times that Mom puts a sandwich on the coffee table and then gets a phone call and leaves the sandwich. Oviously she has left the sandwich for me to finish for her. I don't understand why she has to show me the empty plate after I eat the sandwich, I mean I know it's empty, I made it empty...and no I don't want to eat a plate...jeez. Is she trying to tell me something? Doesn't she understand, I'm sooo not interested in empty plates? Do your people try to give you empty plates? How do you break them of that habit?
We aren't allowed to take anything unless we are told so. If Mom leaves the room, we are told stay & leave it -- nuff said. Neither Roo nor I move (even if the food is on the floor). Sometimes we get to lick paperplates or the like when Daddy is done but again, we have to be told it's ok.

Oh I can "leave it" and "drop it", but she didn't tell me to do either. Hey, it's not my fault she forgot the sandwich and I would be together alone...haha.
Shoot, if there is unguarded food, it's fair game! All obedience goes out the window at that point. If mom gives me an empty plate, Carolina, I'll lick it!
Here are the rules at our house. If its on the floor in the kitchen its ours. If someone drops it on the floor its ours. Other than that, it belongs to the bipeds. We'd get sooooo busted for eating a sandwich on the coffee table.
