It doesn't matter what you drive. Some of the legs have 2 drivers because of the 5 dogs. They have another transport going on the same day with just 2 senior Cockers, one is blind. They have been adopted and are going from a rescue in Columbus to their new home in Vermont.
Our mom is doing a transport tomorrow too! I am doing the Indy to Danville, IL leg. Only two dogs this time, but last time I had three. You will love it! It's a great way to be involved with rescue and it is so important.
I bring water, paper towels, hand sanitizer and some slip leashes that I have. I alos bring a couple of extra leashes because sometimes the sending shelter doesn't have any. I also bring a camera and take a couple pictures if I can.
Have fun!
Maybe I should have started with fewer dogs for my first time. She asked if I needed another driver, but I said I'll be fine. I am bringing a camera.
Hey Butch, my momma met you at the firehouse!! She did the Jeffersonville to Greenwood stop. How did they do for your mom??? I was not happy about the other dog smell on MY MOMMY, but when she said she helped take them to a rescue, it was OK. Mom says to take old blankets, towels, plastic bags, etc. She kinda flew by the seat of her pants this morning, and forgot the camera.
Our mom told us she met yur mom too! We don't like it when she comes home smelling like other dogs either; we know when she's been cheating! We get a little cranky when she spends time away from us on Saturday's too. But, she explains to us that these other doggies might not have a chance to get their own mommies and families if people don't help them get to safety. So, when she puts it that way we do understand. She says sometimes she really wants to adopt the dogs she transports, but right now two dogs are enough.
Today she fell in love with Lady. She said that sweet dog seemed so scared and she really left paw prints on my moms heart. Molly told her that not only did Lady loose her family, but her partner that she came into the shelter with was adopted out without Lady so she really was alone. That made my mom cry and she was glad she didn't find that out until she had handed Lady off!
Mom says she hopes she sees your mom again on the transport highway!
Terri, how did you do on your first transport?
It went great. They slept most of the way. I'll post more later. My avitar is Clancy, my first transport love.
