I definitely think we can do something, but I don't think bark parks allow unaltered pets and I know a few great people on here who couldn't come because of that. Also, you generally have to be a member or pay for a day pass. But, we could get together at a park like Fort Benjamin Harrision. I think it would be fantastic!
That would be great! We've met several times at the Broad Ripple Bark Park for "Corgipaloozas". But the last time we were there, we had some incidences with other dogs and none of us want to go back. Too bad a few ill-mannered dogs/stupid owners can ruin the fun for all. What about Eagle Creek for a picnic or something?
I would LOVE to meet everybody. I don't know much about any of the Indy parks but most definitely be willing to drive to meet you guys. I think my biggest issue would be deciding which one of my dogs to bring. Colton and Maize are both fairly laid back, but I still have problems handling a 120# and 75# dog at the same time....
OK Ruth, so what does that mean exactly? Do you have to be a member? If everyone can let me know what they would like to do that would be great. I am willing to try and set this up, but I need to know what people would like to do. Anyone willing to come to Terre Haute? You can send me a message if you want to help me set something up. Thanks all.
OK, we need a leader. :) Where is the new site coordinator?
In order for everyone to come, a bark park would not work, but both Eagle Creek and Fort Ben have great shelters. I am not sure how much it would cost to rent one, but it is probably workable. We would have to crate or leash the dogs we brought, but I've done similar things with Batman and it worked just fine.
I'm pretty sure Eagle Creek BP does day passes, but I have also seen something else happen too. I have seen where dog organizations rent out the other side of the park (the one not being used by BP members that month), and the have their own little shindig. Not sure how much it costs, though.
At Eagle Creek, if you're not at the bark park, you have to keep your dog on a leash. The only reason I know this is because I was playing ball with Yogi a couple of years ago, and a ranger told me he had to be on a leash. He suggested I go to the bark park.
Hello again. I hate to try to get things started and then back out, but The whole reason I wanted to do something was to be able to do it with the dogs, and them to be able to play and run free. I guess I really do not understand what a bark park is -- sorry. I am more than willing to have something at my home, but I just need to know if anyone would be willing to drive to come. Then maybe all the willing parties can work out a date and time.
Most Bark parks don't allow unaltered pets (which some people have) and you have to be a member of the park (a fee and proof of your dog's records) or get a day pass, which means planning in advance to get the passes necessary.
Then, not all the dogs may want to play together. But, just about any park we could go for walks, plus people could bring Xpens so smaller dogs could play together.
I don't really know about a "no unaltered dogs" policy at the bark park. I know I have seen some that are not altered, but that doesn't mean they're there legally. LOL I'm trying to remember if they check for that when you take your shot records in, and if they do, it's not obvious. I guess the best thing to do if people want to meet at the bark park is to call and find out. I am getting my pass this coming week, so I could find out then, too.
This is copied directly from the indyparks.org site. I don't think they require a dog to be fixed, according to this. "To obtain a Pooch Pass, come to the park office with your dog's vaccination records documenting current inoculations for Rabies, Parvo, Distemper and Bordetella, and complete the application form, sign the waiver, and pick up the dog park brochure."
That is why there would be NO problem coming to my house (other than the drive of course). We would just have to make sure none of the participating females were in heat. I guess I would be "in" to go somewhere that little ones play in an Xpen. I would probably NOT be the person to set this up though because I am not from Indy, and I do not know where the parks are at. It is my fault for having SO MANY dogs, but it can be a struggle to have SO MANY on the leashes at one time (even with them being coupled). We would not have to spend any money persay (other than gas) if some wanted to come to my home, but it is whatever everyone wants to do. I am more than willing to drive as long as I can bring at least the little ones. Connie..... I just have to say that I think you are great (not trying to sound stalkerish ha ha)!! Thank you for being a part of IP. You are one of the many members that I would love to meet. I hope that we can work this out.
