Holding a Grudge?

Sarah on Behavior - Wed, March 26 2008

My fiance boarded his Boxer at Camp Bow Wow while we went out of town for Easter weekend.

When we returned Bosco would not come to greet him, would not play, would not accept a treat ... all things that are out of his character.

Then, Bosco would not put pressure on his hind leg and when my fiance went to check it, the dog cried in extreme pain.

My fiance asked me to take him to the vet because he had to work. When I got over there Bosco was excited to see me and allowed me to touch his leg. There was no crying whatsoever. However, he was acting a little out of character and still showed some weirdness with his hind leg. We canceled the vet appointment and decided to monitor it instead.

Then we started thinking ... did something happen at Camp Bow Wow ... was the leg problem a charlie horse ... was Bosco holding a grudge because my fiance left him all weekend?

What do you think? I've read articles where people say dogs don't think like us and they don't hold grudges.

Oh jeeze, I hope it's just a grudge and not an injury. Carolina is going to Camp Bow Wow--Carmel for her evaluation tomorrow morning. Have you asked to see any of the taped footage from their doggie cams? I was told they hold recordings for the past 20 days. In the past, when Carolina has come back from being boarded she just acts relieved to be home and sleeps for about two days straight, waking only to go outside or eat & drink. For a while after she will act very stressed if left home alone. Was it Bosco's first time being boarded? Maybe he's just really pooped from playing so much. Keep me posted on Bosco's grudge...I'm kinda curious to see how this all turns out.

The grudge thing makes sense but I would definatly keep an eye on it!

I have fostered sooooo many dogs through the years and all of my animals have been wonderful brother and sisters to these little foster kids but I had one girl who was so sweet but for some reason Carl would not warm up to her, I was always on him to be nice to her. He took about a week of her jumping all over him and one day I was hugging my husband and I felt something warm on my leg. I look down and Carl is hiking his leg and peeing on me! ON ME! The person who loves and takes care of him!

So he held a grudge for awhile and finally let me know what he thought about the whole situation!

I don't really think dogs have the ability to hold a grudge, do they? I have never heard anything like that. Hopefully it was just a Charlie horse though. I hope they weren't mean to that baby at Camp Bow Wow.

We just came back from vacation and just took Peaches. When we came home and pulled into the driveway, Peaches didn't want to get out of the car and Emma kinda ignored me at first. She finally warmed up to me the next night, but that first evening...nothing....wouldn't come lay her head on my leg....wouldn't curl up next to me on the couch...nothin'! Oh yeah...some doggies can give you the cold shoulder, but just for awhile.

My dog Barkley would pee all over a toy ambulance I had in our front room when I would work overtime on the ambulance!! The room was decorated with EMS and fire stuff all over. The ambulance was the only thing to get peed on and it would be soaked!! Pee running out the back doors, front doors etc.

Update: Bosco seems to be doing fine now and back to his old self. How strange!
