Well, I can kind-of see where a person who's never had a cat before (much less a kitten) would think this guy was too much for a 4yo child. He does like to "attack". Not in a mean way, but could be scary for a young child (which is a reason I don't like kittens going home with younger kids). Something for me to work on before he goes back... ;)
I remember when I first got Aden at about 2 months and all he did was attack my feet, chew electrical wires, and go behind things that I didn't think he could fit behind. (He actually hid in a ceramic vase and I was so afraid I would have to break the vase to get him out) But while those are crazy months, they are great times for bonding. If you have a calm baby anything- he could likely have a medical problem as to why he's sleeping all the time. I hope this one (does he have a name yet?) likes Alvin.
The kitten's name is Ziggy. He's getting better about attacking feet and such. I'm guessing his previous owners didn't know much about cats, much less a kitten, and let him get away with too much. He's learning that I don't play that way and if he wants attention, he has to be nice. Hopefully he'll keep making progress before I take him back in a couple of weeks. He's not mean, just a rough playing kitten. Personality wise, he's just like Alvin was at the same age... LOTS of personality and is very "helpful" when I'm trying to do something. Alvin just had the advantage of growing up with someone who lets him know what behavior OK and what isn't. My older cats also help keep Alvin entertained. Alvin is almost two and has calmed (relatively) nicely. Ziggy will be happiest in a home without small children (b/c of his activity level), and with people who are willing to play with him a LOT so he doesn't have as much energy to get into mischief. Or even better... if they have buddy for him to run around with.
