Lynn,
I just read something on that, but I'm not sure where. My understanding is the most vets only recommend Frontline/Advantage. There've been some issues with the others. I'll see if I can locate the article. It was either in The Bark or in the VCA magazine that came the other day. I didn't read the whole thing because we use Frontline.
OK! The nerd in me is taking over. I would NOT use it on my pets after reading the ingredients and looking some things up. Trying to put it simply -- One of the active ingredients is Etofenprox. Etofenprox is in the pyrethroid ether insecticide family. Pyrethroids are synthetic
derivatives of pyrethrins, which are natural insecticides that are produced by certain species of chrysanthemum. Pyrethroids are neurotoxins and target insects’ central nervous system. Pyrethroids are a synthetic version of pyrethrins and the U.S. EPA decided to phase out/eliminate certain uses of the OP insecticides because of their potential for causing toxicity in humans, especially children. Even if it's not the real thing, it's not something I'd want to chance on my pet.
Adding this for folks who may wish to try Hartz products just to save a few bucks -- http://www.hartzvictims.org/
Thank you! I've been burned too many times by the cheaper Hartz, etc. kinda stuff. Once years ago I put some Hartz mousse on Erin's kitty Jazmin, she of course started licking it off then started shaking and foaming at the mouth. A frantic bath and vet call later she was fine, thankfully. And even though funds are tight I'd go get a payday loan before I'd use those type of products again. Guess I'll stick with Frontline Plus for my brood this year.
