Baths and flea meds

So, it is about the time for the flea meds but I just got a bath (NO FUN...) and I know there is a rule about getting baths and putting on flea meds. Is it 3 days or something like that? Doesn't the shampoo mess up the chemicals in the medicine? I don't want Mom to waste her money! Guess that is what she gets for giving me a bath!

For cats with fleas, I was just told to wait 24hrs. Though the "shampoo" I use is also called Dawn dishwashing liquid. Dawn kills the adult fleas, then it's safe to add the flea meds once the cat is dry.
