Susan, you almost caused my poor mama to have a heart attack. She thought you meant a WOLF hybrid! Sorry, she's just not quite right sometimes. We have a MINI Cooper, not really a hybrid, but she LOVES it. You could fit 2 large canines in seat belts in the back seat. It's too small for 2 large crates, though.
The office manager at my job just got a Toyota Prius. She had a Chevy Tahoe before, and is really happy with the switch. From what I understand, she gets over 40 miles a gallon (I don't remember the exact number, however). Her two large (over 100 pounds) dogs both fit in the back with no problem. Another great one is the Ford Escape hybrid. It's a SUV, so it obviously has the room and still gets over 30 miles a gallon. Hope that helps!
Wow! I would have never thought my critters and I could fit in a MINI or a Prius, but then again, I haven't ridden in either.
Speaking of wolf hybrids, one of my college roommates had what was thought to be a wolf hybrid. Sweet and protective dog with great personality, but pretty much uncontrollable.
They use "Fuel Cells". Totally different from the combustion engine we've been using for eons. Instead of all the nasty stuff that current cars give off... all they release into the atmosphere is water vapor. Nifty huh? Check out www.honda.com for more info on the car.
I thought she meant a wolf hybrid too. But I sure am jealous of your parents, Madeleine, because a mini cooper is my dream vehicle! I currently drive a 1990 Ford Bronco II. I get maybe 13 miles to the gallon. Haha. I'm sure I have my own personal hole in the Ozone layer by now. I want to shop around for a newer vehicle, but I just don't have the money right now. :(
There is NOTHING I don't love about my car! I bought a 2003 from someone in Ohio in 2005. Even though the prices of the new ones are way less than a lot of cars, it was just more than I could handle at the time. It's expensive to have worked on, but luckily there isn't much that goes wrong with it. There is room for me, 1 passenger, and 2 dog crates in the back. Works perfectly!
We LOVE our Prius. We're averaging ~45 mpg right now, but it does much better when its warm outside. The other day I had a trip at an average of 75 mpg. Best mileage is between 40 and 60 mph. Above that, and the mileage drops to about 40 mpg. With the back seats down, I can put 2 dogs (42 lbs and 50 lbs), luggage, a small cooler, and that doesn't include the space under the back end or behind the seats. This still leaves room for the monsters (oops, sorry, furbabies) to get up and move around a bit. There are also factory installed tie downs in the back end. This allows me to have them wear seat belts and connect the seat belts to the tie downs. I don't worry too much about the windows, because the airbags carry over into the back end.
