Some of you may know that Boone County has been trying to start a humane society for some time now. They don't have an actual facility at this time because they don't have the financial luxury to build one and and to start taking in strays/owner surrenders.
As a 2 year resident of Boone County, I would love to help get the ball rolling up here. Lebanon has a horrible stray dog issue...it's so bad that my boyfriend and I have named them and know where they "stay." There's a black dog that lives next to the highway by the Denny's and was covered in icecicles a couple weeks ago when it "old man winter" was dumping on us--he had no shelter. There is another dog that looks like she's constantly having puppies and lives by the armory with her "mate." She ran after me one day when I was walking the dogs...thank god she didn't feel like going any further because that would have been a disaster. Also, very few people up here are familiar with the importance of spay/neuter, the low cost programs, etc....it's coming, but it's not there yet. In addition, Lebanon has tons and tons and tons of park areas where they could easily build a dog park that could service Zionsville, Lebanon and other surrounding town--Zionsville is a huge dog area and it would be great to offer a local park to residents of boone county.
Anyway, if there are any boone country residents here on Indy Paws or people that are closely located/want to help a new shelter get started, there is a public meeting at the Lebanon Public Library at 6:30pm on Thursday.
They have recently received "tax exempt" status as well so any donations you want to make are now tax deductible.
Please consider Boone County if you want to donate to a up and coming humane society or would like to get invovled.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
