Dont do it!
Advantage is approved by the EPA.
Unless they can tell you they have been approved for sale and that it has been labled as safe I would not give it to my dogs.
I am an ebay junkie too and would not advise buying any medicinal product for animals on there. I am too much of a worrier. Dr Foster and Smith and 1800 pet meds have good prices on flea(only) products.
i always advise people not to buy ANYTHING like this over the internet...ONLY buy it from your vet.(don't even get the off brands from walmart or even petsmart) i have had clients put stuff on their dogs that made them very sick...one schnauzer became paralyzed! i know some of these pet meds sites say their stuff is the real deal...BUT, if you don't get it from your vet, it is NOT covered, in case there is some kind of problem it causes on your pet. if you buy say, frontline, from one of these sites, and your dog becomes ill, you cannot do anything, because it was not bought from a seller who is approved by the company. (your vet) there are just somethings i would rather pay full price for, and be safer, rather than buy a cut rate product that kills or injures my pet. i'd rather be safe than sorry.
Well, if your vet is like mine, they will tell you that the only thing to buy is the stuff they carry.....sure ok whatever. I only use the cheap stuff from Walmart and have never had a problem. In fact when I tried to use Frontline (the vet guilted me into it) the dogs all got horrible hot spots and skin infections. See if you can research it on a site other than ebay. If it works let me know!!!
I contacted the seller and they said the active ingredient they use, Imidacloprid-same as Advantage, is EPA approved.
I made the mistake of using some of that stuff from Wal-Mart once. Lucky for me they didn't have to go to the vet but it did make a red sore place on the application spot. I understand your point, you don't want to put your pet's health in danger to save money. On the other hand, I know that vets get kick backs from the makers of Frontline and Advantage for selling the product. That is why it is so high to buy from the vet and why the vet will tell you to ONLY buy from them and not even from pet supply stores or PetMeds website. The Advantage I have bought on Ebay is factory packaged, EPA approved, and made by Bayer in Germany just like the Advantage you get from Petco. I wouldn't put anything on them I didn't feel is safe.
When I get this stuff in I am going to take it to my vet and have her check it out. Now I am sure she will recommend not using anything but what they sell but I feel sure that she will give me a straight answer as far as if she thinks there is too much of a risk in using this on my pets. I guess I am just thinking that the bottom line is there is a risk in putting anything like this on your pet regardless of where you get it from. Lucky for me I have never known of anyone who has had a pet die due to a reaction to any flea control product, although I am sure there are some out there. I do know that I have known of pets that have used the same flea control product for years without a problem and all of the sudden they have a reaction. I also know of pets where the vet has convinced the owner to switch to a different product they provide and the pet has become ill. You just have to make the best, most educated choice you can for your pet. I will let you know what she says and what happens. Thanks for everyone's input and suggestions.
We buy from Drs. Foster and Smith.com...we only buy advantage because I haven't been happy with frontline in the past. We also buy all or our vaccines from there and have been using them for about 10 years. We fill our scripts there as well. I feel like they are very reputable. I'm not a huge ebayer, but I feel comfortable with DrsFosterandsmith.com.
I know that med is ok, but my question is, has their product been approved for sale?
From EPA's website
"EPA regulates all pesticides used in the U.S. Before a pesticide can be marketed in this country the Agency performs a rigorous scientific review to ensure that use of the product is not likely to cause harmful effects on people, pets or the environment. Under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), EPA requires pesticide products to contain instructions for proper use, safety precautions to follow and directions for proper disposal of unused product and their containers. Legitimate Advantage and Frontline products that have been through EPA’s comprehensive review process are registered for use in the United States, and are not affected by this action. Because the counterfeit pesticides do not conform with established safeguards, the Agency has issued “Stop Sale” orders on the counterfeit products in question.
