Ugh, why do I torture myself?

Veronica & Eddie on Behavior - Sat, March 08 2008

Sometimes I get on petfinder and search for pets I would like add to my home even though I know we can't have any more right now. It's sad really, because I get all attached and just stare at their pictures and think about how great they would be in our family and how much love I could give them and wish so hard I could bring them home.

I really can't wait until our lease is up on this apartment and we can get out into a house with a yard. I can't wait to get another dog. Finally, a playmate for Maddy! I would even like to adopt another Boston. Wouldn't that be cute?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yep, definitely. I am trying to move to Indy to be closer to work and my older dog is @ 13, so I don't think I can get another dog right now. But I do the same thing. I even go on rhodesian ridgeback rescue sites since Ellie's a rhodie-mix. And, I really, really want the chocoalte lab foster that is on this site - but I think it would be too stressful on Jed. Oh well, one of these days... I always said if I won the lottery I'd open a huge no kill place on farm with vets on staff, etc.

I'm there with ya sista! How do you think there are so many dogs in my avatar? I know I shouldn't do it but I do. Right now I'm obsessing over a Doxie that was born with abnormalities to all 4 paws. He can make it up a very small step but nothing more. Our home of course would be perfect because that's all we have-1 little tiny step. Plus we have Doxie experience and would take great care of him. I get on Petfinder at least once a day along with Craigslist and Dogs in Danger,Petfinder classifieds, and the urgent forum. Plus I get emails from different groups. Why do we do this to ourselves????? But if I didn't---Pablo, Cocoa and Blitzen would be living elsewhere.

My mom does the same thing. I tried banning her from rescue sites once Miles wormed his way into the house, but it hasn't worked yet. I guess I'm doomed to have more siblings in the future.

Currently I am obsessing over a dog at HSI that looks a lot like Batman. If it looks like Batman, then I want to bring it home. The dog has been there more than a week. Sigh. If it looks like a shepherd, a wooly terrier or a collie mix, I want to bring it home. I tried making myself not look. It didn't work.

I check all those sites everyday also. Plus the rescue we got my Mom's dog from. They have a Basset/Lab mix that has been on there for what seems like forever. She looks like such a sweet dog. I've started to email Karen a couple of times and had to stop myself. I remind myself of the $400 I spent at the Emergency Vet for Loki & Remus. Thor is getting neutered at the end of the month $$. Loki's shots are due in April. If I were to win the powerball she's the first person I'm calling!!

Haha. I have definitely considered that before. Acres and acres of dogs running around and belly rubs for all! I'll just have to suck it up and allow Maddy to nurse my bleeding heart. :'(
