One of my Goldens (not Freedom) killed another dog that ran into our yard when I was younger...she wasn't normally out front, but she happened to be that day...we had invisible fencing. Anyway, i was devestated when I found out about it and my family didn't know until they got a letter in our mailbox. All my parents could do was offer to pay for another dog for them, but they refused. That golden had some other issues which caused her to go to "doggie heaven" a little earlier than planned, but that kind of unpredictable dog aggression was horrible to deal with. Point being, even a happy go lucky retriever can do a devestating act.
This is so tragic. Beverly has gotten out before, when I thought there was no way she could. I stand and watch my girls the whole time they're outside now. I'm not sure about these people, but sometimes even though we're doing our best, our pets find a way to sneak past us, or they catch us with our guard down and sneak out.
As a pitty mom this really makes me angry. Yet another story to add to the towns horror stories about how horrible these dogs are.
I do understand that a dog can get away from someone, I have seen it too many times but if you own a pit, that is just not an option.
I hope the family of the cat involved is ok, I cant imagine having to explain that to my children. I also feel for that poor dog. Was the law involved?
I fostered a pit who after he was adopted jumped his fence and killed his neighbors cat, IPD was called and they came out and shot and killed him because he still had the cat in his mouth.
The owners need a crash course on pit bull ownership and a little commons sense!
GRRRRRR!
The man that owned the cat was a police officer, but he chose not to get animal control or anyone else involved. I think they are lucky, because if this had gone to court, I think they could have made a case to put the pit down.
