Behavior/ Coping w/ New Animals

Erin on Behavior - Tue, March 04 2008

My cat Jazmin has not been dealing very well with the recent full-time guests of Jordan, Regina, Titus, and now Isobel (The previous no name on Lynn's page). She's been up in my mother's bedroom for the past about 4 months now. We've set up everything she needs, don't worry. But, I would like to see her come out and play and see the rest of the house... maybe the YARD.. once in a while. You know, it might be good for her! Call me strange.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here in any similar situations have any methods that have worked.
Every now and then I make a kitty burrito of her in a large blankie, and we come downstairs. But, she's not keen on staying too long. (She gets very irate when the door to the bedroom is closed and she can't get back in.)

Thanks!

It's because you have too many animals, lady. Jazmin is on strike! Pouting, as is her right. Kick those other out and she'll be fine. BTW, don't even think of sending them to my house.

Sounds like Jazmin is protesting. Why did you get all of these cats at one time and add them to your cat, Jazmine? This will traumatize her. Is this what happened?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've decided the bedroom is my "safe space" in the house. I'm still working on coming out in to other areas, too, because there is another cat and she growls at me!

Work on containing the other pets in your home, or keeping them all away for a while to let Jazmin be alone with their smells but still safe. I come out of the bedroom if Mom is around and the door is open. She tries to spend equal time with me and with the other kitty until we are both comfortable.
