I'm pretty bummed about the Mutt Strutt. IP was supposed to have a group, I don't know what will come of that now. You're right, I don't want to give money to them if they are not being the "shelter" they are needed to be. Lots of charities are in the red right now, but cutting back your services isn't the way to go. *sigh* No one knows why the posts were taken off. I've asked Brandon (the site guru) why and he had no idea either. Two were mine, one was Judi's (Charlie's mom) and I'm not sure who the other was. Someone didn't like the fact that they were being called wrong. That's my opinion. Who knows. This post may disappear!
I am in the process of writing a great letter, but it's not done yet. I'll post it here later today. I'm hoping they will print it, as I've had a couple printed before. I probably should have written it BEFORE I shot my mouth off about IP, but I was pretty restrained and not ranting and raving in the IP one, so I hope they will print it. It usually takes several days to a week, especially if they are gathering enough letters to have them all be on one topic. I plan to mention Move to Act as a viable solution.
My friend volunteers at the Calumet Humane Society, and I wrote to ask her what THEIR policies were. Here is here reply to my email when I told her what HSI is doing.

wow...sounds like your humane society needs a shakeup of management. we don't have counseling prior to relinquishing a pet, but your intake coordinator tries to find alternatives to giving up the animal. he has worked with people on re-training their pets and has had great success. we do have a waiting list to relinquish, so sometimes the tips he gives people work during the time between the call and the actual appointment to bring in their pet.
i doubt our shelter director makes $100,000+. and as for $400 for a dog...wow! the most we charge is $150 + a $50 deposit for spaying/nuetering. sounds like a little mismanagement of funds going on, which would be a real shame, considering the mission of a humane society. are they operating under a "no-kill" philosophy? i hope so.
