I have been on this antibiotic several times but none of my animals ever have. I know that it's for a very specific type of infection. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much. I'd follow the vets directions to the T. The fortiflora is really important as it's goign to help re-establish the needed flora in Loki's digestive tract. As for the info that you found online, you have to take that with a grain of salt, who knows who posted that info or how scientifically based the study was. It maybe like the study years ago that said nutrasweet causes cancer in humans when come to find out you'd have to eat several pounds of nutrasweet daily for that to happen. We will pray that Loki and Remus make a speedy recovery.
Hiya...don't know if you've seen any of the postings about Puma's "poo" issues over the past 2 months...we've been through 6 different meds, allergy-free food, etc. etc. One of the meds was metranidazole (sp?) and it is nasty! as far as taste goes; we had to have pharmacist mix it with strong bubble gum flavoring and even then, Puma foamed at the mouth and spit it out as much as possible...don't know if it really worked or not! Now we're doing "probiotics", which I assume the flora-stuff is that you're using. I've heard it can take a few weeks to really see the results; for us, its been 2 weeks and I'd say he's about 80% better; I still keep him in the laundry room because he "drips" some...can't control himself, because his stool is so liquid...So, all in all, I feel your pain (and Loki's)...hang in there and know it should eventually get better...Keep me posted! My vet has been pretty stumped on Puma's illness and we'd appreciate any other ideas as to what his problem could be?
We should own stock in them by now. Since we got the girls, they've both been on it. They didn't have any problems with it and it did the job. I thought it was making Sweetie itch but it turned out that it was the Panacur. I wouldn't worry about it causing cancer. You're only going to give it as directed for a short period of time. I don't know where that research came from but they probably fed tons of it to rats over extended periods of time. People take it all the time as well. I wouldn't worry about giving it to your dogs. What was wrong with both of them? Oh, we've also gone through plenty of Fortiflora as well. It is to help their gut adjust since the antibiotic kills off all bacteria including the helpful kind that should be in the gut.
