Home remedy for pet stains?

Veronica & Eddie on Grooming - Fri, January 25 2008

Previously, we had been using a liquid called "Nature's Miracle" to clean up the stains left from Madison's, um, accidents. Let me tell you what, that stuff works really well. Even on the dried out poo stuck in the carpet behind the couch.

(Note from Madison: "MOM YOU'RE EMBARASSING ME!!!")

Anyways, the bottle ran out, and I was wondering if anyone knows of some sort of home solution we could put together that would work on the carpet?

Please and thank you.

1/4c of baking soda + 1 qt of Hydrogen Peroxide + 1 tsp of dish soap gets out skunk stink and cat wee... May work on doggie doo too. A word of caution though, it *might* bleach carpet, test it in a small (hidden) area first. It's cheap, but the biggest drawback is that it's only good for the day you mix it.

If you can get past the smell, I always use just plain old distilled vinegar and a little water. The upside of using vinegar is that it's never bleached out any carpeting I've used it on and it's really cheap. Once the spot is dry liberally sprinkle baking soda over it and vaccum it up at your convenience. Good Luck, Lynn

Bleaching probably wouldn't really be an issue. We have really pale, beige, berber carpet. You can see it in some of Maddie's pictures.

I thought I had heard of the vinegar trick before. Get past the smell? It would probably make my mouth water. I am a huge fan of the vinegar flavor (pickles, A1, etc) and even more so now that I'm preggers.

I shampooed the carpets with a mixture of vinegar and water! It does clean stains very well. Kinda smelly, but I just light my candles and the vinegar smell goes away. It's the cheapest carpet "shampoo" around!!

OMG! That's funny that you like the smell of vinegar especially right now being pregnant. With 2 cats and meathead (aka Titus) this trick is what saved my $300 security deposit on our last apartment :) Lynn

Mommy uses vinegar and rubbing alcohol for spots. She finds the alcohol makes it evaporate so one does not end up with a ring. She also uses this as a glass cleaner. She uses a combination of bleach, vinegar and a little soap for cleaning the tolets. We need not buy expensive cleaning things.
