OWIE...but i love my job...

Kelly on Activities - Wed, January 23 2008

oh man, my back side hurts!! this morning we had two suuuuper cute berners come in, they are sweeties, but VERY strong!!since my sister is 9 mos preggers, i thought i'd help her put the stubborn one (the male, who is HUGE) in the crate. he did NOT want to go in (he had just gotten home from boarding for a week, so i think that was why)and he put all fours out, so we're trying to push, turn, trick him, into the crate. well, we get his front feet in, he walks inside, turns around. i squat down to reach in to take his collar off (there is NO WAY my big pregnant sis can do that right now, LOL!) and he BUSTS out of the crate, slamming into me, and i literally went OFF THE FLOOR!!! worst part, it sent me backwards, about 3 or 4 feet, and i landed on my behind!!! OUCH! at least i kinda landed sideways, on the right side, and not on the tail bone, but man, oh man, my entire right side is achy tonight!!! i told my sis, "that is why i don't groom super big dogs anymore!!" LOL!!! but i'm ok, just get some advil and muscle relaxer in me tonight, and i'm feeling better. tomorrow i'm either gonna REALLY hurt, or be better. man, the hazards of being a dog groomer!!!!

OMG! What a scene! I bet you are going to be sore. I need to get some tips from that big guy as to how to knock mom over and run out of the bathroom before she can bathe me!

Ya, you're gonna have a bruised behind! That poor dog said "Enough is enough!". Glad you're ok.

Hah! What's a "berner"...and also, why don't you use some glorious treat (like a hot dog?) to entice him into the cage, rather than powering him in? That's what we're learning in class...

It takes both mom and dad to get me into the bathtub for a bath. Mom has often thought about taking me to a groomer, but can't seem to find any around here that will take BIG dogs like myself. Not that mom can blame them....Hope some ibuprofen will make your bum feel better today!

Bernese Mountain Dog. Who knew grooming could be so hazardous to your health????

Momma feels your pain.....she used to groom once upon a time and I would often get to go to work with her **sigh**

I know the feeling. Kennel work is definitely dangerous at times. We have two large (70+ pound) GSPs who board where I work, and I'm always sore after walking them. But, it's still so worth it. By the way, I adore Berners, they're on my "to own" list.

http://www.berner.org/ this is a berner. they are great dogs, but VERY strong, they were used in the old country to pull heavy carts, and TRUST me, that boy can probably pull my CAR, haha! but, yeah, a hot dog would work for someone like joe, but when a dog is kinda in a "panic state" of mind, they won't respond to even the best of foods. now, that said, once he was in, he was fine, and i later enticed him to put his paws up on the tub, with a piece of pepperoni! made it much easier getting him IN the tub, LOL. ;o)

Colton, why don't you go to a DIY petwash? Some PetSupplies Plus stores have them now, and other places...much easier on the back!

Hey, we almost got a BMD a couple years ago; never heard them called berners...But they're awesome! At the time, we couldn't find one easily and ended up with a black/tri Aussie instead.. :)

Unfortunately Lafayette in not as progressive as Indy and we don't have "do it yourself" dogwashes yet.Mom loves the idea, just no place to go yet....
