Regarding New Changes on IndyPaws

Kelly on Grief - Fri, January 18 2008

ok, i know many people are having some issues with some things, and i DO feel your pain, us discussion leaders and our site manager are having the same problems, BUT, i wanted to address this, because i saw several postings on this.

on the home page, any time there is a comment to any newer post, the avitar of the one who most recently posted shows up. this is pretty simple to understand, and i guess i already figured this out because this is the way indy.com has been since it started. this is ONLY like this on the HOME PAGE, and if you click on "Pet Talk", it will show you all the posts, with whomever started the topic's avitar there. (so you won't see several of the same pic in a row, like someone had mentioned about the home page)

the reason that the home page is set up the way it is, is because you can SEE if there's any replies to your post,(and see WHO replied most recently!) and it also says how many have replied, underneath. personally, i like this, so it's not bothering me. (i also always have clicked on "Pet Talk", ever since i started posting here, so that is probably why i do not see the problem as much as some do)

the owner to owner thing has been brought in so that more people will post, because as many of you remember, there have been many folks who just were hesitant to become involved in discussions, if we're not talking like "ourselves". i mean, it's really not that big of a deal, is it? come on, you guys!!! :)

i just wanted to post about this, because i'm seeing so many people complaining about the new changes. i will tell you that we will probably bring in MORE new people to this site with it being the way it is now, than the way is was before. we just were not keeping many people's interest. now things are put together in a more interesting way (like galleries, and new pics uploaded...you could only see those on home page before)

anyways, i wanted to have my say, too. one more thing i'd like to leave you all with...she might not even want me to divulge this, BUT, i don't care, LOL.

you know our site manager, kathi, charlie and the rest of the crew's mom. i am sure most think she's just one little piece of the "puzzle" that makes up indypaws.com, well i want you all to know that she is pretty much the one who has to take care of it ALL!!! she has to deal with us discussion leaders...reminding us to do things we should already know by now (DUUUH, haha, i'm the worst!), plus she schedules meetings with us, takes her time AFTER work to deal with the site problems, having meetings, getting people to advertise, etc....AND, take care of her own life, too!! she posts the news hound stuff, goes to any engagements where the photos have been done, i mean, this woman is EVERYWHERE!!!! she is one hard working person, and if it was not for her, i just do not think this site would be still going. she has to deal with the folks working on the site, relaying EVERYONE'S problems they each have had...i mean, her job is really never ending! she's doing it because she loves it,and she loves indypaws, and so do i!! it's just kinda bugging me that everyone seems to be dumping on her about the new changes on the site. she has been really excited about the changes, and i really do like them, too. we are having a few bugs to work out, but this is not just an indy paws problem, this is also an indy star server problem, and unfortunately, it just happens to be all happening at the same time.

anyway, i just wanted to say my say, i wanted you all to get the scoop, and please keep all this in mind when you are having the issues with the site. can't we just talk about our pets? instead of being "fault-finders"? please give this change just a little bit of time because all the bugs will be worked out as soon as possible. PROMISE!!! :)

I understand why the changes were made, but that doesn't mean it's better for the site. Seems like it wasn't broken.... why change so many things so quickly? That's all. Indypaws is not like other sites, which is why I like it here.

Thanks for the explanation. I kind of like the new changes and I'm sure we will all get used to it eventually. I certainly appreciate everything that's done to keep the site running, we all have a great time with it at our house!

Thanks Kelly for the input, I always wondered if Kathi was doing this by herself. She does a great job.

As for the changes, I think most of us like most of the changes but some of the changes not so much. Does that makes sense? I do like the galleries and the new pics uploaded features. I'm not too fond of the changing avitars, and the last comment displaying on the home page - that's really the only thing that bothers me. I'll get used to the owner to owner section I'm sure. I'm not a regular blogger on any other site so maybe that's why the changing avitars are confusing. Could be for others as well.

I just think that it will take more time for everyone to adjust. We're like our pets, when our routines are changed we can get cranky sometimes!

All and all I think everyone enjoys the site tremendously!

Now that I have figured out how to navigate it, I like the changes. I, too, almost never go to the Home Page, so I don't think the drastic change there made any difference to me. Pet Talk is the way it has always been, except now we can reply and have that cool feature of the pop-up comment. I like the fact that our yellow envelopes and red hearts are back, thank you for doing that, Kathi. I still can't get an avatar picture up for Luna, but that will be corrected sooner or later, no big deal. I REALLY like the fact that you added positions for all of us crazy people who keep adopting more than our allowed number of profiles. I'm pretty old (55) and not very technologically savvy, so I figure if I can navigate it AND embrace the changes ANYONE can. And Kelly, thank you for explaining Kathi's very big and difficult job. I knew she did a lot, but had no idea that it was that much. Kathi, my hat is off to you. Thanks for starting this, keeping it running, and trying to make it the best site possible.

Like anything else that's new, it takes a bit of getting used to. I'm old (well, kind of--LOL) and I'm slowly adjusting, as usual. Change is always good if you go at it with the right attitude.

We too think the changes will be great once all the kinks get out...

It was a bit of a shocker when I first signed in to see the new changes, and I afterward I had some problems signing in, but everything seems to be fine to me. The site pretty much seems to be the same as it was before, expect a little more user-friendly, like where everything is placed and such. I don't mind it, but I will have to get used to it. Kudos to Kathi. :)

We REALLY love this site and we are forever greatful to Kathi for keeping it going! Like some others have said, we don't get on many(or any) other blogging sites and we just didn't understand that changing avatar on the home page. We always go to the home page first so this was very confusing to us. I am sure we will get used to it and PLEASE don't take all of our complaining to heart too much. Most of us are very happy with our routines and sometimes resist change! THANKS AGAIN Kathi for your hard work in keeping this site going!!

Absolutely thank you, Kathi. You'll never be able to please everyone. We're just thankful that we have Indypaws!!

Frankly, I found the whole "talking like a pet" thing to be a bit awkward, so I'll be interested to see how these changes affect the overall traffic.

Aw, c'mon, somebody's gotta say it...Sometimes it just takes time to teach old dogs new tricks. We agree with everyone's kudos to the discussion leaders and to Kathi!!

I am in on this. I think we should have a big PAWTY and welcome the new sight. Let us plan it now!!

Why do bipeds need a voice? We're the ones in charge. *snort*

I work with Kathi everyday, and there isn't a more committed person around who would run this site and all that it entails. Some of the advertisers are my accounts, but the majority of them have been brought on by Kathi... in addition to all of the administrative duties that she handles. We pet lovers believe that the site was designed for us to communicate and share info...and indypaws.com responded by adding a Vet Expert to the site. The site will continue to grow and change as the needs of the users change. We're always looking at how to grow the site and add members.
I think it's time for the "big boys" to step up and target their ad dollars to this group. After all... who on this site didn't drop some serious coin at Petsmart, Petco, etc at Christmas? Anyone have an idea how we can show these large corporations that indypaws.com is a great way to target their core audience?

Gosh, guys, I'm blushing...but credit where credit's due; I am NOT a designer, nor a techie...we owe all that work to Matthew Rogers and others in the Innovation and Design Dept. at the Star. I just take the reins from there! We really do appreciate all your comments and input...this is, after all, YOUR site! :-)
