Trip to southside shelter

Jenna on Activities - Wed, January 16 2008

I went and took some stuff to southside animal shelter today and thought I would take a look at the kitties while I was there. I think I've talked the boyfriend into letting me get a cuddle buddy for Milo. There were sooo many I feel like it would be impossible to choose! So, I was wondering if anyone had any "favorites" there? I kind of want to get one that "needs it most" like, one that has been there a long time, but that is also sweet and cuddly, and can stand being around Milo and Jasmine's rambunctious behavior when they play (I'm pretty sure Milo thinks he's a dog lol :) Any ideas?

Gosh...how could you possibly choose? If I were you, I'd take a young cat/kitten of the opposite sex than Milo...so, a little girl! I'd definitely take her out of the cage and play with her for awhile to be sure she's not overly shy, etc. You should be able to tell if she's very cuddly by how she acts around you once she's out of the cage...carry her around and see if she'll let you!

I generally just wait until one "speaks" to me. It always seems one stands out when I'm looking to add to the pet family. It may be a glance, a meow, a paw through the bar, or something. Find out from the staff if there is a cat that is having trouble being placed and see if you like it.

Mama and Papa were looking for one black kitty when they got us girls. Once we got to HSI they said, "hey, it's a two for one deal today!" So they just "had" to get two!!:)

momma looked at their website, and HSI's, too, just LOOKING, but had not decided for sure if she would get another kitty. then when she was taking speedy to the vet, i was there. i had been found by someone, and needed a home. so it was kinda fate. just check them out, and whichever one "calls out" to you, that is the one you want. mom was gonna get a male that was not tuxedo, grey tiger, or white, because she had kittys those colors in the past who have gone to the bridge. well, i'm a tuxedo, GIRL, so who'd a thunk it? ;o)

Hey Jenna, wanted to point out that there are 90 cats/kittens at the Anderson Shelter, anxiously looking for a home! Please check them out! Some listed here:

Since you already have two, you definitely need a cat that enjoys other feline company. Think about the personality of your cats and what would be a compliment. You need to be sure it's a good fit for your family and the cat

I got Monkey from Southside - when I went to pick out a cat I roamed around the cat areas for about an hour and narrowed it down to two cats. It turned out that Monkey had been there for 8 months so I got her.
