what a crazy day at work!

Kelly on Grooming - Wed, January 16 2008

i can always tell when the full moon is coming, because either all the dogs i groom act opposite of their normal personalities, OR, things around the shop break, or won't work, for whatever reason.

this morning, i was late to work (as USUAL, haha) but my sis had opened. well, we dilly dally around, drink our starbucks, then start washing dogs. i get two washed, and i had a few that needed shaved down, before i could wash them, so i started clipping one of the already dry ones, so it could go home. becky, my sister, washes a dog in one tub, with this bathing system we have. it's this tank thing that we fill with water at the start of the day, mix in shampoo, and it basically shoots out the pre-mixed soap and water, on the dog. once we use this, we turn on the fresh water from the sprayer. becky turns it..nothing comes out. she says, "we don't have any water!", and i said, "did you PAY THE BILL???"

(it's a running joke after she forgot to pay the phone bill one time and they shut it off)

she goes to check the bill, nope, it's not due yet. she calls the water company, APPARENTLY, a contractor in the area had requested the shut off to work on some things, and we were SUPPOSED to have been notified....WE WEREN'T!!!!!! so here sits this soapy little dog, and no water to rinse it!!!! i was FURIOUS!!!! i went next door, they had no water, either. anyhow, water company realizes our dilemma, calls whichever worker is with contractor, he comes right over. he says it will only be off for "about" and hour. (yeah, right) we explain about the dog needing to at least be rinsed, so he can get dried. the guy goes out with a big bucket, turns on the HYDRANT, lol, and fills the bucket, and brings it back in. becky rinses the dog, and he fills ANOTHER bucket for us. well, that did get us through rinsing a few dogs, but that last one, i stood around at the tub, dog sitting there, looking at me like i'm some kind of idiot, waiting for that water to come back on. i guess there was no record, for some reason, showing that us and the post office are hooked into this water line, so that was why no one contacted us.

when he got the water on, and he stopped by, he apologized...hey, things happen, ya know? and said they would have to do it again one time, so he said they would either do it on a saturday, when we are closed, or a monday, when we have light days. i swear, i thought my sister was gonna pop out that baby, she was getting so stressed, LOL! everything worked out, though, and i did not have to kill anyone, so it was cool. :)
