Question for pet parents

Misty on Health - Wed, January 16 2008

Ok, this is Isabel and Sophie's mom. Do you guys (pet owners) have a plan in case something happens to you as far as who would take care of your fur babies? I don't have anyone to pass them onto that I would trust to treat them as good as I do, I want them to be taken care of and I don't want to worry about them. Do you guys have "parents" lined up in case something were to ever happen? I just thought of that yesterday and it worries me now. Please give me your input.

My son and his wife would take Daisy and I would take Miles and Jasper if anything would happen to any of us.

My parents would take the dogs, but my breeder would take any (and probably all) of them too. I would trust my mom to find them good home if she couldn't handle the entire pack--she has a lot of friends at work that absolutely love my chi's. Good topic though!!

My in-laws or brother-in-law would take Maverick in a jiffy. Luckily we have a big family and most love pets. We would also take their's without thinking about it. My in-laws live in a farm and their dog is a farm dog.. I'm sure Maverick wouldn't mind moving to the country.

I have arrangements written into my will for my girls.

I made arrangements in my will. Any person taking one of my animals gets a percent of my esate (Right now someone would get about $1.50 and a pet). The executor of my estate is someone who is an animal person and has agreed to ensure the animals go to appropriate homes where the money will indeed be used for their care. I had the will written in general terms so I don't name pets or say who specifically gets them. That way I don't have to keep rewriting it.

I had an attorney draw it up rather than doing a will type kit since it got kind of complicated.

I also let my friends and family know what I want to do about specific animals. For example, the horse is somewhat problematic, so I have someone specifically lined up for him. One of my co-workers and I also know that should something happen to either one of us, we can count on the other one to make sure everyone is OK animal wise.

I don't know who would take my pets, but I'm designated to take in parents dogs if anything were to happen. Right now, that would mean those three lovely ones I post with now. (If) I get married, hopefully in-laws will take the pets, since I don't plan on having children.

That's my situation, I have no kids, no husband and no friends that would take as good of care of them as I do. I guess I need to get more into the dog community and find someone who loves their dogs as much as me.

We're in the wills but we know that Grandma would always take us if we needed to.
