Do Dogs get Pimples?

Ojo on Grooming - Fri, January 11 2008

Ojo gets these bumps on her that resemble pimples, tucked in her fur, under the skin. They are really small and hard bumps. Never on her chin or toes, they are found randomly on her body. And she doesn't have a lot of them or get them all the time - -just random appearances here and there.

Not to be gross, but they aren't red or infected looking and don't seem to bother her. You feel them when you pet her or bathe her. Like acne, if you squeeze them, a pustule will pop out. No oozing or anything. If you leave them alone, they'll eventually work themselves out and disappear.

Perhaps an allergy to soap / shampoos. We usually use non-soap shampoo on them but with dirty paws, she does get quick soap offs.

Odd --- but I was wondering if anyone or groomers had seen this before.

pets do get pimples like the people do. Keep an eye on them. If you ever get any that don't go away and grow or don't feel like the normal, get it checked. But pet acne is common.

Casey occasionally gets these as well. We did get a topical cream from the vet which clears them but they usually go away on their own.

Pimples, pimples to away pimples. I have a pawty tomorrow night. Not to alarm you because, it does not sound like the same thing. Do keep an eye on it though. Lacie (now at the Rainbow Bridge) got hard scabby bumps. Little did I know that this is a warning sign of liver disease. The bumps were crusty though.

Oh geez...1 little pimple?? Please. We cresteds struggle with our skin as much as people do. Of course, we also have sweat glands unlike you other dogs. We even go through a teenage acne stage!! I have pretty good skin for a crested, but I still get one here and there sometimes. We also get blackheads too--"pickers" should never own a hairless chinese crested--they would go mad!!
