I know three tricks now!

Madison♄ on Behavior - Mon, January 07 2008

I have learned sit, lay down, and jump up now. Mom said I am a fast learner and I will do anything for a treat.

Mom said next we are going to learn shake, after I get lay down better.

Still working on the trick that involves not pottying in the house. Hmph.

The trick that I taught myself is how to turn off the touch-lamp. Mom gets annoyed because suddenly the room will be dark and she'll turn to see me with a big grin on my face by the lamp.

Love,
Princess Madison

OH, I'm going to see if mom will buy me a touch lamp. That sounds like a GREAT trick. Isn't it fun to learn things and get treats? Good job, other Maddie.

Hey touchy lamp needed here, I would love turning out the lamp and jumping at my brother and sisters like anytime at night instead of waiting til mom goes to bed, I love to do this to winston my twin, so mom says.

Way to go, Princess Madison. You're growing up and learning so much! I'm proud of you. Maybe you could teach me to shake. I've never learned that one. :-)

Deucey, shaking is easy. Just have your mom give you a treat every time you let her touch your right paw. Then she can start picking up your paw and giving you a treat when you are used to her touching it. If she uses really good treats like cheese or a tiny piece of hot dog, you will be offering her your paw in no time. The verbal command can come next, after you have learned to do it when she extends her right paw. My mom says "How do you do" instead of shake. She says "shake" sounds more demanding and less polite. Humans...can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

That's great, Madison!!!! Good job to you and your Mama!! I know sit and that's about it. We've been working on lay down and I do that part of the time. Ma needs to work with me more. She's going to try that, Madeleine!! I'm very treat driven!! That "how do you do?" is great!!!

Thanks for the tip, Madeleine. It's really Mom who doesn't know how to teach me to shake. I'm smart enough to learn anything she's smart enough to teach me. I'll keep you posted on Mom's training!

Awesome job on the tricks, Madison! Have your Mom work on shake paws -- that's the easiest to master. I know that treat's in that hand! and if you figure out the no-potty trick, let me know your secret. I sometimes forget that one.
