No Christmas Miracle...yet

Hannah on Health - Thu, December 27 2007

Hannah's Christmas miracle has yet to come, she woke up at 4:30am Christmas Eve morning with another eye flareup. After giving her pain killers and flushing her eye out, it started to become painful again around 6am. I was in tears from exhaustion, frustration and hopelessness from dealing with this for so long. I called Purdue and one of the ophthalmologists we see called us right back! I cannot express how grateful I am to these ophthalmologists who have dropped their plans to see her at such short notice early in the morning, in the middle of the night, on holidays and whenever else she needs help. Poor Hannah had an ulcer covering almost her entire eye, no wonder she hurt! She recovered at grandma's house being loved on by grandma, grandpa, great-grandmas and great-grandpas who brought lots of Christmas presents for both her and Zoey. We had it rechecked today and it's almost all gone. We'll go back again next week to have it checked again and discuss anti-viral options that may prevent this, but none have worked thus far. Keep sending your prayers and well wishes, we will find a way to get this under control...just a matter of time.

you know you are always in our prayers. have you ever discussed hannah's condition with any holistic vets? that was our next step, had stuart not gotten so bad and passed away. i really do think there is a place for both types of medicine, modern, and holistic.

I have not discussed Hannah's condition with a holistic vet, but I have discussed holistic treatments with her doctors and they have done some research in that area. I strongly advocate preventative and less invasive treatment before looking to drugs and I have no issues with holistic or alternative medicine. In fact, I would prefer holistic treatment for her because she is very, very sensitive to medication. Unfortunately, her vets and I have yet to find any treatment that appears to be worthwhile (we've looked at diet, acupuncture, homeopathic remedies, etc.). She is on a Lysine supplement and I'll be adding an omega-3 supplement shortly.

Poor Hannah! You are very fortunate to have such caring, knowledgeable vets taking care of her. Glad to hear she is on the mend again!
