Back from the vet

Well Daddy took me to the vet today. Everything is fine but Mommy said that she thought I was getting a upper respiratory infection and she was positive I had demodectic mange. Well the vet said I do have a bit of a cold but it's early on so a little bit of meds will clear it right up. They also did a skin scrape and I do have mange. Now I have a bald spot on my head. The vet poked and prodded and said I'm a very nice boy. The vet also said I have a very slight heart murmur. He said he can only barely hear it when he would give me love and I would get excited and wag all over. Daddy said the vet said it wasn't a big deal at all and that I would live a normal life. So now I have to take medicine. Puke! I hate medicine but Daddy said it will make my cold go away and I'm all for that. Last night Mommy gave me a heating pad to lay on and put my space heater by the bed. She bought this Vicks thing that goes into the wall too. That helped me breathe better so I could sleep. All in all my visit to the vet wasn't that bad. He gave me lots of kisses and said I was a very happy boy.

Sorry to hear that you don't feel well. Hope you feel better soon. How do you get mange?

Well the vet said it's demodectic and Mommy said demodectic mange is hereditary. Mites are a normal residents of dog skin. It is only in some individual dogs that mites cause problems. Mine is localized though so treatment is going to be easy. Just one dime sized spot on my head and a little around my right eye. The vet said I could continue to go to daycare because it's not contagious. I just got it from my mommy. The vet said all animals have mites on them at all time. Mommy knew it but bringing it up kind of grossed her out.

Don't worry, I had mange several months ago,and now I'm fine. Hope you feel better soon!

you poor thing! i hope the meds work, and that sucks about the heart murmur, but i have known dogs that lived well into old age with them with no problems. i have heard that demodectic mange will show itself sometimes when the immune system is weak, or the dog is ill, so i bet it came out since you had been sick. anyhow, get well soon!! :)
