I have a new brother!

Basil on Breeds - Thu, December 20 2007

I can't believe this. Dad brought home a brother for me and Mom. Now Mom knows why Dad kept saying we couldn't get another cat. He had seen this cat at a shelter near where he works. He adopted him yesterday and brought him home last night. Mom was so excited. I am not very happy right now. Mom says I just need to get to know him.

My brother, Socks, came from Humane Society of Preble County in Eaton, Ohio. He is a five year old neutered Main Coon mix. Dad was shocked by the conditions there. They gave him Sock's shot records to him on a sticky note! Mom will be contacting them today to get better records. They didn't have a normal cat carrying cardboard box for him so they punched a few holes in a regular box to put Socks in.

Mom is worried because he seems to have a respiratory infection. Socks is sneasing a lot. Mom is going to call the doctors today and schedule an appointment for him. When Socks is feeling better he'll right his own post.

They put Socks in the office with his own litter pan, food and toys. Mom cracked the door open a little so we could sniff each other without touching. She said this would be the best way for us to get to know each other.

Mom says this morning he is warming up and starting to purr. He is still nervous because of everything he has been through.

Once Socks is feeling comfortable around the house mom will take a few pictures of him, but until then Mom created his profile using pictures from the shelter.

Mom and Dad are also thinking of changing his name. Every cat with four white paws is call Socks. We would be happy to have any suggestions.

Mom had a hard time sleeping last night because she was so excited to have another cat in the family. I'm still have to think about it for a while.

Congrats on your new bro! I'm pretty anti-social when meeting a new cat, but honestly, I like having company when mom is gone. Anyway, since Socks has white feet and looks to have a white bib (in his pic) like tux cats do... how about something sophisticated like "Thaddeus" or similar? Hard to suggest any without knowing his personality.

Since Charlie (old phart) forgot to mention it, try the following website for TONS of names, you can search based on color, personality, theme, etc: http://www.behindthename.com/

Basil, I was not happy when Zoey came home and started walking around like she owned the place. We keep each other company and no I'm not so sad when Mom leaves the house. Be sure your momma keeps you two separated until Socks sees the vet, two sick cats are twice as much no fun.

Well, congats on your new sister. You'll both become fast friends. She'll feel better once she gets on an anitbiotic.

Well, Basil, my friend, make the best of it, because once they come in the door, they stay. Here's hoping your mother can get this respiratory infection under control, and that he doesn't pass it to you. Sir Denny Crane

Basil, my mom tells me that a brother or sister is a great thing. I personally don't believe it, but I guess I'll say congratulations to you. My mom says definite congrats are in order and that now the new brother will have a very happy Christmas in his new forever home. We'll say our puppy prayers that he gets over his respiratory infection. Be nice, Santa Claws is watching!!! :-)
