My husband read an article to me this AM from the current issue of Newsweek. It involves the son of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, and an incident in 1998, wherein he participated in hanging a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp. Of course there were excuses made, and eventually the Director of State Police who investigated the crime was fired. This all happened when Huckabee was Governor of Arkansas. The whole thing just made my blood boil, and made me want to throw up. I know that he is not his son, but I read no admission of guilt, no remorse, just a lot of excuses and covering up. Not the sort of person I want to vote for, but that's just me. I am including the link to the entire story. Then on my way to work I saw a dog hit by a car, the driver of whom did not stop. The dog did come out of nowhere, crossing 6 lanes of traffic on 38th Street, and had almost made it across before being struck. I pulled over immediately, but the dog ran SO fast, up a driveway and into an alley, and I lost sight of it pretty quickly. I was heartened by the fact that he was able to run, and I didn't see any part of him actually run over, so I'm hoping he was just rolled and shaken up. It was a smallish black and white pit bull or pit bull mix, and was hit at about 38th and maybe Clarendon. It headed north before I lost sight. A bad start to the morning with 2 discouraging dog incidents. Just needed to tell my IP peeps, because sometimes the people at work look at me like I'm crazy if I come in crying over a dog being hit right in front of me, and I knew you guys would share in my outrage and sadness over these things.
