It is amazing how much dog hair the vacuum picks up. There are times when I think I have 2 beagles. Now this is my opinion but I think cats with white fur shed the most. At least my Rusty Allan did. My sister has a Dyson and loves it but I think I will check out the Bissell Pet Vac.
Yes birds do use the fur. I always left a bunch of Andy's fur in the yard. This past year after a bad storm went through Brownsburg, I found a nest under the pine trees that had dog hair in it. Recycle!!!

This is great info! Thanks! I have to buy a new vaccuum, and without a recommendation I'll be in the store for hours! I'm horrible about making decisions on those type of things. That's cheap too. I'll have to run over and get one. Does it come with attachments?

It does come with attachments! It has the standard extender arm, the slim narrow piece for corners, the standard brush and then the "turbo" brush that has a rotating brush attachment! It rocks!

Much better price then the Dyson we bought, but I love it, so that's water over the bridge. I LOVE MY FURMINATOR!! I'm keeping Kirby and Hoover's fur and having it spun into yard so I can make a scarf. I never thought about leaving it for the birds....I'll have to string some on the branches for them to pick off. A little Christmas present for them!!
