This is the store Bub came from. It was 11 years ago and we paid a fortune for him. They said he'd had his shots and was ready to go. We were young and first time pet owners. They sent us home with no information about how to care for a dog or that he would need additional shots, heartworm medicine every month, training and socialization. Of course we know all that stuff now, 11 years and several pets later. When we brought him home, he was already four months old, had probably been in a cage the whole time and was absolutely terrified of his own shadow. Within a month he had parvo, within a year he had heartworm, and it took probably two years to potty train him. He gets skin cysts, which are inherent to his breed. But, luckily, for the most part, he has been a healthy dog.....So, shame on us for not doing our own research, but also I think shame on them for not informing their customer's on the needs of their purchase, but wait, that would probably cut into profits, just like proper health care and reputable breeds.....Greed is such a horrible thing.
Stop the Bell: Here in Indy, just as in shelters across the US, there is a doorbell at the back door for the public to ring when they want to relinquish a stray or unwanted animal. Move to ACT and help us stop this bell.
One thing that I like yesterday were the poster with Petfinder.com on them. It's good to tell people not to buy from pet stores but you also need to offer an alternative way to get a pet. I also overhead a spectator talking about that in Fishers and I thought it was a good point. Or even signs that say Don't shop-Opt to Adopt. I'm not sure if I'll be there. We're doing picture with Santa again this Saturday along with adoptions.
