Well if enough people express interest I would like to protest a few other places. It just takes a lot of time and work and then if no one shows it's very disappointing. I know people care, we got soooo many horn honks and thumbs up, but we need people out there in the trenches. You have to physically show your support. But I have faith in dog people and I know that I can always rely on a few people.
Hey everyone, mommy's back home she had to make a few stops on the way. Sorry, I took longer at the vet this morning than she thought, so she missed the Fishers protest (that's the one she wanted to go to). But she went to the one in Avon. She asked everyone she talked to if they were from IP, but no one was. She thinks she saw Strudel's mom. (wasn't sure, not great with faces) Mommy said it took her an hour to get there, but it was worth it.
Hey, my mom was there too! She was wearing a Carhart with purple hat, gloves, and scarf. What was everybody wearing? Mom said she saw Leslie from Animal control and people from Grrace, ARPO, Move to Act, and of course Wags among others. She said it was really cold but if I had to live in those conditions for so many years, she could stand out there for a few hours. It's hard sometimes to fit things into our busy schedules but it's so very important to do so. It's like that commercial about "almost giving". It's great to want to help but we physically need people to show up. Maybe next time we can have more people. So where's the next one? Anybody got suggestions? I know that I've heard several people ask about the Uncle Bills on the Southside. We live by the one on 38th street so that would be good too. I heard the Safari Pets owner was really mad about us being there. Well, too bad so sad.
Oh yeah, Safari Pets are a bunch of ******. They called the cops which did nothing. They also took pictures and filmed the whole thing. They make me sick! There was an undercover investigation done and we have video of them taking puppy mill dogs. Ahhhh!!!! But anyway, I want to protest UB's in Greenwood and U Dirty Dawg in Greenwood. Would anyone be up for protesting on the 22nd of December?
It's a dog daycare/pet store/pet shop. They daycare is tiny and the dogs are mixed together so danes with chihuahuas and they sell sickly dogs. I know, I've seen it myself. They are on 135 and Stones Crossing. The owners also own laundry and tans. They are in it strictly for the money and the also breed some sorry looking Irish Setters.
For some reason I was thinking UB's on west 38th had closed... Wishful thinking on my part I guess. =/ I went there once back in '02 maybe? They had a bunch of sick little kittens that I wanted to steal so I could help them feel better... I was never able to go back there, even when I didn't know much about the whole puppy mill thing.
would anyone like to also do a protest at the one on the east side? it is really skanky. the last store was so nasty, smell, they had to move to a new location a few years ago. it smelled like the worst pissy, crappy kennel smell you could imagine! there is an appliance place in the old location now, and it still smells there. i think it's soaked into the floors and walls, seriously. anyhow, if we can get a good sized group interested in the one on east washington street before x-mas, i can help out with that one!!!! (if it's during the week, though, it will have to be after 5...next week is super busy! ;o)oh, was there any media there today at either place?????
Safari Pets filed bankruptcy in June of 2007 and Eddie Brewer(their ops manager)bought it in July. He's never owned a pet store before. Their website advertises kittens as "Coming Soon" like a movie. Their puppy section states that you can get "registered purebreeds, unregistered professionally mixed breeds, and domestics" Sounds like a drink menu not puppies. No way are those responsible breeders putting out unregistered professionally mixed breeds. Also it appears their "registered" dogs are with America's Pet Registry. Yippee!
Yes, Joe, the one on East Washington was absolutely revolting. Mom used to have to go there to buy mice to feed Otero (she can get them from Petsmart now, thank goodness). Even though they built a new one, they're still disgusting. Mom would love to go but unfortunately she'll be at college taking finals, then on her way to visit family in Michigan. Good luck, though!
Here's the link to the ferret rescue, I know they were at the Johnson County Paw Pounder this year. Does UB sell ferrets? It's been such a long time, I can't remember.

The Uncle Bills on 31 sells everything. They are disgusting. They have rabbits in a little tub and tons of birds and kittens and any kind of small furry animal you can think of. They definately aren't taking care of them like they are supposed to. My mother in law is coming for sure because of that. She is a big cat and ferrett person.
