Long week...

Hannah on Health - Sat, December 15 2007

Grandma came over to kittysit on Wednesday because Mom had a final and my eye always flares up before she has somewhere important to be. We had a blast playing with Grandma, she really wore us out. Mom has been so happy with my eye, I haven't had an ulcer in over a month and it's barely weeping.

And then Thursday came...Mom had a meeting and I wasn't at the door to tell her about my day when she opened it. She went upstairs to look for me and I was acting strangely. She picked me up and my inner eyelids were swollen so that you couldn't see my eye, I was shaking and I had scratched it, so it was bleeding. Mom burrito-wrapped me in a towel and then ran outside with me in her arms (in a t-shirt and barefoot) trying to find a neighbor to take us to the vet.

So we went to the vet and they gave me shots to control the swelling and they numbed my eye so they could take a look at it. I was so good, I just purred the whole time and I didn't bite or scratch...even though it hurt so bad. Mom let me sleep next to her so she could keep an eye on me and I was much better by the morning. We have to go back to the vet on Monday and then Grandpa or my Uncle is kittysitting Monday night for Mom's last final. Cross your paws and send prayers that I won't have a flareup while they're here.

Awww, Hannah, I hope you feel better. Eyes are important things for a kitty.

We go to the Broad Ripple Animal Clinic for the vet and up to Purdue's Small Animal Hospital to see an ophthalmologist. Since I frequent the vet/ophthalmologist with my health problems, mom switched to a vet that is close to our house, is open more hours and she's very happy with all the vets we've seen there. BRAC has been very nice about seeing me quickly when this happens and my ophthalmologist at Purdue has come in just to see me very late at night when mom had to rush me up there. Unfortunately I am very reactive to my feline herpes and am very sensitive to medicine...making my case very difficult to treat.
