Spay/Neuter Pricing

Stevie on Health - Tue, December 04 2007

Hi Everyone,

Since I've been asked about a million times lately why it costs me $200 to have a dog neutered, I thought I'd post this link.

http://www.movetoact.org/spay_neuter.html

I hope this helps. Spay/neuter prices vary greatly depending on the vet, what method they use, location, etc. So, when someone says it cost them $300 to have their dog neutered--this is why--many vets cost even more!!!

In my puppies, I must pay for this cost out of my own pocket if they are going to pet homes. I have to charge enough to pay for the neuter in addition to the puppy and then break even in total. In addition, some vets won't do an early spay/ neuter (particulary on a 2lb chihuahua) because they aren't comfortable with it--so your choices narrow and the cost goes up.

I hope this helps everyone! I've also phoned a recommended clinic where I live (which I don't normally stray from my normal vet) to see what the price was and to see how early he does neuters. I wish I didn't have to charge over $600 for a pet puppy so I was hoping that this would help. Unfortunately, he won't do a neuter until at least 5 months of age. The price is good: only $95, plus $12 for a rabies shot. But I'd rather have "Teddy" done at 4 months or prior because he'll be easier to place before he hits his "ugly teenage" phase...LOL!

Thanks for clarifying. It is clear that you are knowledgable and have your animals best interests at heart. I wish more people who consider themselves to be breeders would put as much time, effort, and love into their puppies as you have. You just can't put money above an animal's health and safety. If you do, then you shouldn't breed dogs.
